5 Tips For Preparing For Your Maternity Session

5 Tips For Preparing For Your Maternity Session

Preparing for a new baby takes a lot of work. Not just physically, but mentally. How long is your list of to-dos right now? Some things are crucial; like picking out the perfect bassinet for your precious newborn to sleep alongside your bed for those early months. But other things, like learning Tips For Preparing For Your Maternity Session get pushed to the back burner. We get it! We’re moms too and I remember the panic of knowing my big pregnant belly and swollen ankles were going to be documented in portrait form forever and I had no clue what I should be doing before that happened.

That’s why at Amanda Ellis Photography our entire goal is for you to show up in sweat pants and we give you an incredible, stress-free experience from start to finish. But that doesn’t mean there aren’t ways to get the very most out of your Fine Art Maternity Portrait Shoot! Read on for my Tips For Preparing For Your Maternity Session!

1) Decide What Vibe You Want

During our Discovery Call, we will discuss how you want to look the day of your maternity shoot. Soft and feminine? Strong and powerful? A mix of both? What about Fine Art Nude Maternity Portraits? Do you want to remember every curve of your glorious pregnant body to share with your daughter someday in a tasteful and artistic way?

When you’re in front of my lens I give you detailed instruction on posing and facial expression to bring out the very best in you and to achieve your goals for how you want to be portrayed in your portraits.

Not sure what look you’re going for? No problem!! We LOVE Pinterest for shoot inspiration! Feel free to create a Mood Board for your upcoming Maternity Session and add things that you like! Here’s our favorite powerful and strong maternity looks or if you prefer a romantic maternity session!

2) Choosing What To Wear

This part stresses EVERYBODY out so what we did at Amanda Ellis Photography is create a perfectly curated selection of Couture Gowns and Italian Silk Fabrics for draping so you don’t even need to worry about it! Our Client Closet has hundreds of gowns and dresses in every color, style, neckline and sleeve length you can imagine. We even have crowns, statement jewelry and angel wings for your use!

You’re welcome to come to our Cuyahoga Falls Studio for a Clothing Consultation ahead of your maternity session to try on pieces to see what colors your skin tone will look best in! We will help you pick the perfect assortment of clothing to achieve the look and feel you’ve been dreaming about.

We don’t leave anything up to chance either; right down to recommending what undergarments to bring with you and what your partner and siblings should wear! Our detailed Prep Guide goes over everything so you don’t need to stress that you’re forgetting something. With our Tips For Preparing For Your Maternity Session, you will have all the tools for a fantastic maternity photoshoot.

3) What To Do For Hair And Makeup

Did you think I’d leave you hanging when it comes to hair and makeup? If you haven’t noticed by now, we like to make everything so incredibly easy for you that we have a team of professional hair and makeup artists available for your session day. Just show up in your LuluLemon leggings and we’ll give you a fabulous makeover including false eyelashes to make your eyes really pop in the photos! My team is there to make you feel beautiful whether that means a full glam look with a dark Smokey eye or a very natural “no makeup” makeup look with glowing flawless skin.

We even send out email reminders prior to your maternity portrait shoot with tips on prepping your skin, lips and hair for the most camera ready look possible.

4) Details, Details, Details

Showing off your bump means poses with your hands cradling your belly and we will see your fingernails! I recommend a mani-pedi before your shoot in a neutral color so all focus is on your perfect baby bump and expression.

We keep nail polish and remover in the studio in case you forget. I got you girl!

While shoes aren’t necessary for most of the looks, if you love heels and wanna bring your favorite pair I’m all for it!

Shave your face! I know that sounds crazy but the fuzz on our faces shows up in the portraits and doesn’t allow the makeup to go on as smoothly.

Avoid tanning lotions and spray tans unless you do this regularly and get even and great results.

5) Don’t Forget To Eat

This tip is the most important! My sessions start at 10a weekdays and I encourage you to eat breakfast and stay hydrated before your maternity session. The maternity photos you see in my portfolio may look completely effortless but keep in mind you’ll be on your feet and holding poses for about 2 hours during your session and if you haven’t eaten you may feel lightheaded or woozy.

We keep yummy snacks and a variety of beverages on hand for in between sets so if you need a pick me up, we’ve got it!

So there you have it! 5 Tips For Preparing For Your Maternity Session!

We are going to have so much fun and create the most magical maternity pictures you’ve ever seen.
