Postpartum Mood Disorders | Part 1 | Interview with Kathy DiVincenzo

Early 2018 I had an idea in my head to interview women who suffered from various postpartum mood disorders and give them a space to talk about their experiences. I noticed how little we talk about women’s health issues across the board in our society and that does not sit well with me. I understand that during difficult times, sometimes we don’t know what to do or say to someone, so we just avoid them. But this causes more suffering to these mamas going through such a traumatic time in their lives. We desperately need more transparency into these issues, and I felt like I had the perfect platform to give these incredible women a chance to speak up. I treated them to hair and make up (Thanks American Beauty Artistry!) and a free photo session to celebrate their bravery. I truly admire and love each of these women, and I hope you take the time to follow along as I share this series over the next 5 weeks. A new interview will be released every week on Wednesday at 10AM. If you know someone dealing with postpartum mood disorders, please share this with them, and anyone else who may benefit. Even if just one person can find comfort in this series, then I feel I did what I set out to do.

If you don’t have time to watch the whole video, I’ve outlined the main points:

Self care is not selfish – when I’m my best self, I’m my best mother, I’m my best wife. When I’m in a good place, then I can pour out into my family.

We put on this persona that you have it all together like “I have two kids it’s not a big deal I can handle it.”  But on the inside at home is when things start falling apart.

They say motherhood is the most beautiful time of your life….And I’m like, or it’s actually really terrifying and I feel like I’m drowning…. But nobody talks about that part.

Getting help for some people it is medication and nothing else.  But for me it was a combination attack of let me try everything that I can.  Naturally, medication wise, therapy wise and just creating that self care.
