BOSS BABE SPOTLIGHT – UJIMA DOULA SERVICES

I would like to introduce you all to Jai! I met her at The Birth Expo this past April and we clicked immediately! Some people you just “get” – if that makes any sense! We vowed to connect back up for coffee at a later date, and I had the opportunity to also photograph her! What an honor! She is the awesome founder of Ujima Doula Services. She offers full spectrum doula support services and support to individuals and families in Northeastern Ohio. She specializes in Post-Partum and bereavement support.

Jai was kind enough to answer a few questions about herself and business and I’m so excited to share with you!!

Can you tell me a little about the name of your business and where it comes from?

Ujima is the third principle of the African holiday Kwanzaa. It mean cooperative works and responsibilities. I wanted my business name to mean my thoughts on my community and the responsibility I have to it.

Do you have a favorite part about birth?

My favorite part about birth is actually when a baby is crowning. He/She is still within the womb and half way out in the world.

Tell us a little about you – Who is Jai Hawkins?

I’m a mother, daughter, sister and Aunt. I’m very passionate about so many topics. I was a teenage mom so both of my sons are now adults. My personality is strong but I’m very humble.

What is your favorite beverage?

My all time favorite beverage is coffee, either hot or cold and a second runner up is La Croix with lemon juice

What is your favorite thing to do during downtime?

I love to read and shop and cook recipes that I find on Pinterest.

During the course of our conversation we discussed her plans for expanding her knowledge and certifcations in Doulaing (Is that even a word? Haha. If not, I’m making it one!!).

Jai is lively and passionate and my favorite thing she told me during our coffee date is “The only things I like that are fake are nails and weave!”
