3 Years Ago I Married My Best Friend

“It’s funny to me that I was able to plan the majority of our wedding in less than a week – but it took a deadline of September 1st for me to write these vows. I think it’s because I have so many things I want to tell you but not enough words to express how I’m really feeling.

I hope that every day you know that you are loved with all my heart. I hope that every day you know how thankful I am to have you in my life. And that if it weren’t for you, I would not be alive today to become your wife.

You have helped me through some of the darkest times in my life and made me laugh when I didn’t even feel like smiling. I know we both have our ups and downs, but for each other we are constant.

From our first date that we didn’t want to end, to laughing with tears streaming down our faces watching Adventure Time on the couch. To all the times we play wheelbarrow race with the animals (And Miley and I always win) – I never want it to end. Forever just isn’t enough.

So today and every day from now until the end of time, I’m going to love you, never take you for granted, kiss you every day, help make your dreams realities, support you when times are tough, keep your favorite popsicles in the freezer, and eat a sandwich if I’m hangry.

I look forward to growing old with you and traveling to places we’ve never been and visiting old favorites. I can’t wait to watch you become a father and be so loving with our children as you always are with me.

You’re my best friend and I’m so happy that after today you’ll also be my husband. I love you so much.”

3 years ago today I was giving those vows to my favorite person in the whole world. And while I’ve been lazy about keeping those popsicles in the freezer, everything else I’ve kept to my word.

I thought then that we couldn’t be more in love but I laugh because  3 years in and we’re just getting better every day! We’re so in sync now. We talk about everything. I didn’t realize then just how important daily communication would be. We’ve gone through some weird patches here and there, but we always come out on the other side stronger and more in tune with each other. And usually laughing our asses off thinking “why did we think that would be a good idea??” I’m more confident than ever that no matter what life throws at us, we’ll be able to handle.

I’m thankful every single day for this man. How he makes me laugh. How we have so much in common and love all the same things. We are definitely not one of those “opposites attract” situations. We are almost the same person, I swear.

We push each other to be better people. And I couldn’t ask for a more exceptional partner and friend.

Happy Anniversary, Brian! I’d marry you every day all over again if I could!
